Geography..........

Glancing up towards an open window, you draw on every ounce of your being to remind yourself......this is not a dream !

Within the cobbled streets of a hilltop town in Umbria you wander lost in its beauty, your senses go into overload as church bells ring out in the distance and for a moment you are lost to your emotions.

Finding yourself sitting on an ancient stone wall eating sun ripened peaches from the local market, the view far below leaves you breathless....how can this be......surely I shall wake at some point.

Olive trees sway in the warm summer breeze as a local cat calls to you then wanders up onto the wall for a casual cuddle from a stranger, completely at ease with its surroundings.

For the briefest moment you are at home, stray thoughts of moving to this piece of paradise drift through your mind............the reality of such a move are quickly dismissed as pure fantasy, dreams are free it seems.

As stunningly beautiful as this place is, its not home, the people are generous and friendly but it is so far removed from what we know, it seems it will always remain just one of many fleeting moments where time stood absolutely still.

All too soon its over....the day draws to a close and its back to Rome on the train, back to the chaos, the noise, the endless stream of tourists, where new adventures wait round every corner.

I am sure there many towns of a similar nature throughout Italy.....but for now Orvieto will remain a priceless jewel waiting to be discovered by others like myself.
